Fans View: Mohamed SalahMarch 6, 2018
An in-depth look at how fans perceive one of the premier league's top performers.
Including the views of RedMen TV's Chris Pajak, Swiss Super League Head researcher Oliver Zesiger and Sebastian of CalcioAsRoma. |
Having made the switch from AS Roma to Liverpool FC in June for what is now looking like a bargain price reportedly around £35 million, it looks as though the reds have pulled off the biggest coup of the summer.
The 25 year old wide man has built on his impressive spell in Italy lighting up the premier league in style. With 24 Premier league goals to his name, Salah looks as though he has a point to prove with his return to the English game.
When calculating both Salah's goals and assist this season it's works out that Salah has contributed to nearly 50% of Liverpool's 67 premier league goals. Statistically making him Liverpool's most influential and important player.
Starting his career off at Egyptian club El Mokawloon it was clear to see that Salah was a standout talent. The wide man made his debut aged 18 And stayed in his native country until aged 20. During his time at the club he showed glimpses of his future excellence scoring 11 goals In 38 Appearances.
At the age of 20 Salah transferred to Swiss club FC Basel, a transfer mirrored by now premier league rival and Egyptian compatriot Mohamed Elneney.
The fee Basel paid for Salah was said to be in the region of £2.5 million, he was signed after the Swiss outfit played a friendly against the Egyptian youth team. A game in which Salah scored a brace impressing attending scouts. The scouting at FC Basel is an important step in ensuring success for the club. Oliver Zesiger Swiss Super League Head researcher and qualified PFSA scout stated that; "They (FC Basel) invested in scouting very early on (After the take over) and they were rewarded time and time again", "They take care of foreign players really well, making integration easy and let them focus on football". Although fans were excited for the debut of Salah, Zesiger admitted that he was; "Unable to keep the ball at his feet at times" , "He missed chances, huge chances left and right". adding with a hint of humour that; "The word among fans were he couldn't hit a pyramid". Zesiger went on to say that although Salah was a very frustrating player to watch, fans could see that he had the raw talent and ability just needed time to adapt. Zesiger also said that although the misses were frustrating fans took a liking to Salah because; "He smiled all day and was thankful he was playing for Basel". After finding his feet at Basel Salah scored 5 In 76 Appearances. Among them where two champions league goals against future employers Chelsea. Salah found himself in a tug of war between Brendan Rogers's Liverpool and Chelsea's Jose Mourihno. Although both premier league clubs bid for the Egyptian winger it was the London club that won the battle. |

During Salah's time playing for the violets he re-discovered his Basel form, playing regularly and scoring consistently.
With 16 appearances and 6 goals Salah was full of confidence and on his way back to his best. It is reported that Fiorentina had attempted to activate the option to purchase Salah only for the player to reject the offer and instead join Seria A rivals Roma on loan for the 15/16 season. Sebastian of CalcioASRoma spoke about his delights with the signing of Salah saying; "I was beyond excited, a lot of people said we had too many wingers but I always knew he was different to the others". Sebastian continued by saying that although he could see the talent in the Egyptian; "He needed to improve parts of his game, which under Luciano Spalletti he did." The Roma based blogger summed up Salah's time at the Italian club by saying; "Its at Roma where his path to becoming a star truly started". Sebastian spoke about how Roma fans see their ex-player; "Even to this day I get almost jealous seeing him score all those goals" , "At the same time I'm happy for him, cause he proved everyone wrong." |
On 23 January, 2014 Mohamed Salah completed his move to Chelsea FC for a transfer fee of nearly £15 million.
I spoke to Chelsea fan Mat Davies about Mo Salah's time at Stamford Bridge, Mat stated that; "As a Chelsea player he just simply wasn't good enough, he had the chances and just fluffed them". Mat didn't solely blame Salah for his lacklustre spell at the blues placing blame on Chelsea boss at the time saying; "Mourinho has never had the best record bringing through youngsters". Mat also spoke about the player and his current form at Liverpool saying; "Liverpool should build their whole team around him". adding that suggested rumours linking Salah to Real Madrid should be ignored; "He'd be an idiot to leave Liverpool like Coutinho or Suarez". Salah began his blues career relatively well scoring against Arsenal and Stoke however, Salah didn't score again for Chelsea in the 13 appearances he made before been shipped off to Seria A side Fiorentia on an 18 month loan deal which saw fellow winger Juan Cuadrado move in the opposite direction. |

On June 22, 2017 Mohamed Salah made his transfer to Liverpool FC Salah has had the dream start to his reds career scoring 33 goals in all competitions. 24 of the goals have come in the Premier league, placing Salah in contention for the Premier League's golden boot along with player of the season. I spoke to RedMen TV's Chris Pajak about the in form Egyptian Chris spoke of his delight when the Liverpool winger completed his transfer to the reds; "The left foot looked incredible at times, you could see exactly how he'd fit right into our team". With the Egyptian now scoring for fun Chris described him as. "World class, fast, direct, lethal, tireless and better than i'd ever hoped". Although its hard to imagine now it wasn't clear which position Salah would play or who's place in the starting 11 he would take, Chris admitted. "I thought he was going to be a squad player until I saw him him come on against Wigan in pre-season" , "As soon as he took to the pitch you could see he was going to be lethal". There has been recent speculation linking Liverpool's talisman with a summer move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, a transfer that Chris believes both Salah and the Reds should reject. "We've got to hold onto him, he will be difficult to replace" , "We can win the league with our front three and a few additions". With the change in the transfer market after the Neymar deal, Chris believes if Real did come calling Liverpool could command nearly as much as the transfer record fee. "He's worth easy £150 million, probably up to £200 million in this market". With 3 months still left of the season Salah has already broken Suarez 31 goals in one season record After interviewing fans from Salah's previous clubs they all seem to have an element of envy that he's no longer at their club but still extremely proud that he's developing into a great player. The question remains does Salah feel he is happy to be at Liverpool long term and will we the fans be able to one day talk about him in the same way we do about Rush, Fowler, Gerrard and Suarez. |
